Description
Citrullus lanatus
HEIRLOOM. The legendary Ravenscroft watermelon, kept all these years by Mr. Carold Wicker and Dr. James Kibler of Whitmire, SC. Dr. Kibler has helped to steward and grew this lot of seeds for us, and we are honored to be able to offer them to the public again after having thought them extinct. Bred by Adam Summer circa 1850, Summer is also credited with the Odell’s White watermelon. Both the Wicker and Kibler families live within 15 miles of the Ravenscroft plantation where Adam Summer lived, and both families used to be direct neighbors to the Summers’ back in the day. The watermelons surviving a century-and-a-half in the same area is a testimony both to the strong farm traditions of the area and to the stamina of the melons themselves. Ravenscroft is a large, oblong melon with dark skin, light green stripes, red flesh, and white seeds with a brown border.
2 gram packet contains a minimum of 18 seeds.
