Description
Asclepias curassavica
Butterflies love Bloodflower, as it provides a great source of nectar! Commonly called Mexican Butterfly Weed, Blood Flower or Tropical Milkweed, these showy plants have blooms in the colors of red, orange and yellow. Less drought tolerant than other milkweeds. Summer blooming.
Perennial in the South, but should be cut back in fall to encourage proper Monarch butterfly migration behavior. Non-native tropical milkweeds growing late in the year in the Southeastern US may encourage Monarchs to lay their eggs too far north, where the eggs will not survive the winter.
Typically grown for flowers. Perennial in zones eight through ten.
0.5 gram packet contains a minimum of 100 seeds.
