Cucurbita moschata
HEIRLOOM. Originally cultivated by the indigenous peoples around the Everglades and quite rare today, this squash is excellent for southern growers. Delicious 6-8″ round fruits with buff-colored rind. Productive vines tolerate dry and rainy extremes and have Downy Mildew resistance. Seminole Pumpkin is part of the Slow Foods Ark of Taste!
Direct seed or transplant into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Winter squash will need full sun and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, they will need at least an inch of water per week. Harvest once the rind is firm and before a hard freeze. Be sure to cure your winter squash for storage. Annual.
