Description
Ocimum basilicum
Slender, two inch long leaves have a spicy anise-clove flavor. With attractive purple stems and blooms, this herb is essential in Thai and Vietnamese cooking. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall.
Direct seed or transplant into the garden after all danger of frost has passed. Basil will need full sun and well-draining soil. Water well to ensure good germination. Once germinated, basil will need at least an inch of water per week. Typically grown for leaves and flowers. Annual.

I buy a seed pack like this nearly every year for my garden. I use last year’s pack for this year’s garden and store this year’s pack away just in case I need more seeds or as prep. If you only grow a few varieties you’ll be better buying seed packs individually. If you want a variety this is better. I’m not going to grow an entire large pack of beans so those seeds go to waste, I’d rather have less seeds of a large variety. It doesn’t matter much to me, but the packaging is varied and there are no instructions on the packets like you would find in the store. For the growing guide you have to download it. If this is for your home garden you’ll be able to lookup any variety you want to plant. If this is for prep you should also include a basic gardening book which will go over the plants in general but not the specific varieties as well as a book on how to save seeds.

The kit came extremely well packed with NO broken pieces. This kit is a long term project do not expect to have a tree overnight. Most of the seeds take 60-90 days to germinate. With patience you’ll have a nice hobby.

I’m not really sure how to review seed packets that won’t be productive for a while yet. So, I’ll say they are beautifully packaged (although not all packets have photos, like they do in the description) and scanning the QR code leads you to a comprehensive planting guide. It may actually be too late to plant them in my zone, but I’m in a warmer climate, so I’m going to plant them and hope for the best. The markers are a nice bonus and look like they won’t blow away, like the ones I used last year did. Wish me luck!
