Description
Lobelia cardinalis
Cardinal Flower is an Eastern native wildflower that is loved by hummingbirds, butterflies, and humans alike! The bright red blooms bring a splash of color to the moist areas they inhabit. Grows to 2-3 feet and blooms for several weeks in late summer to early fall. Cardinal Flower is a perennial, but it is a short lived one, typically only living for a few years. However, they do self-seed, so your patch of Cardinal Flower should persist for years to come. Grows best in moist, rich soil near water. Lobelia benefits from cold stratification. Typically grown for flowers. Perennial.
